Sibling Rivalry

Anna Scoppettone

“I have composed a piece about a pair of kings that rule neighboring kingdoms. The piece begins by setting the country scene, then goes on to show both kings in their native castles, followed by a love interest that is shared by both kings, posing the age-old love triangle. The piece then escalates to a battle scene between the brothers, which results in the evil brother being mortally wounded. His brother is understandably upset and the piece ends in a buildup of his grief, only to be followed by calm, depressed acceptance. This is really interesting for me because, as a violist, I don't have much experience with brass.”
