Opus 39
Calling all student composers!
Work with one of our amazing composer/mentors during our annual writing cycle: Opus 39.
Registration for one-on-one online mentoring is open now!
Your SCHOOL MEMBERSHIP provides teachers and students with classroom materials and support from our team. Student composers gain access to reduced mentoring fees for all events this year, including the Electronic Music Showcase and Opus 39. Interested in working with us? Ask your teacher(s) to visit this page or reach out to us with questions.
Independent students may also register HERE at any time to work with our mentors and learn more about composing.
- No prior experience necessary, open to all students in grades 3-12.
Each and every student who submits for Opus will be paired with a professional composer as their mentor while they create a new work. - First drafts/ideas may be as short as 4 measures and a statement of intent! Much of the work will happen over the course of a few months as the young composers work with their mentor.
- Works can be written for any combination of the available instrumentation:
Brass Quintet (2 Trumpets, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba)
Voice (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass)
Percussion (2 players, one of which can be a drum set)
Saxophone (Tenor or Baritone; 1 player)
Piano
First Posting: Rolling Submission through Friday, January 3rd, 2025.
Final Postings will be due by February 28th.
Selected Composers announced by Tuesday, March 4th.
