Workshop Schedule:
1:30pm Interviews with James Stewart (VT Public Classical)
Join radio host (and composer) James Stewart as he interviews student composers and their teachers about writing music, working with a mentor, and having your work premiere live in concert!  (all are welcome)

2:15pm "Meet the Harp" with Eleanor Freebern
Learn about the harp and the considerations necessary when composing for this beautiful instrument. (grades 7-12)

3pm "A Crash Course in Choral Writing & Arranging" with Matt Podd
Dive into choral arranging in this hands-on session. Explore key techniques—harmony, texture, and voicing—while building a piece together. Sing, experiment, and watch the process unfold in real time! (all grades)

4:20pm "Songwriting w/ classroom instruments"
Think you need a fancy grand piano or an orchestra to compose? Let's break down some barriers together and write music with the instruments we see every day in our classrooms. (Elementary & MS)

4:20 "Ask Me Anything" with Matt Podd
Join composer, pianist, and music director, Matt Podd for an open, no-holds-barred conversation about the ins and outs of a freelance music career. Over dinner, we’ll dive into topics like publishing vs. self-publishing, commissions, building collaborative relationships, and the business side of making a living as a musician. Bring your questions, big or small—it’s all on the table! (grades 9-12)
