25 student compositions were performed in concert with professional musicians on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Ludlow Town Hall Auditorium in Ludlow, Vermont. Donations to support the project and future Opus events are always welcome.

Student Summer Opportunities - 2017

Summer Workshop for Student Composers - July 24 - 28, 2017 - 1-4 pm daily

Registration limited - only 2 spots left! Register now.

Spend a week working with Senior Mentor, Erik Nielsen, and other students with an interest in composing for live performance. This workshop is designed for students in grades 6-12 with some previous experience, although Music-COMP membership is not required. Erik will guide each student as they explore various composition skills and techniques to develop works suitable for live performance. A goal of the week is a reading/workshop and recording session with professional instrumentalists.JustinGates Eriksummer12

Dates: Monday, July 24 - Friday, July 28, 2017 from 1-4 pm to be held at Montpelier High School, VT. These half day workshop sessions will guide students to create compositions for performance. Read more information and register HERE. Space limited, so register now.

Summer Online Mentoring available May 22nd - September 15th.

Senior Mentor, Erik Nielsen, and other professional composer mentors will be available for any student interested in using the summer to create new works with the guidance of an online mentor. Summer composition mentoring is $30 for elementary and middle level students and $60 for high school students. This provides for mentoring for one composition from start to finish with no limit to the number of student revisions and online discussion for the one work. The discussion continues through the summer until the student indicates they are finished. Students may submit more than one summer work provided they pay the mentoring fee for each composition.

The fee may be paid online or a check sent to the Music-COMP office at 30 Steeplebush Rd, Essex Junction VT 05452.
