Where Do We Go?

"A piece describing the plight of refugees and their attempt to find a safe place to live. The words are my own but the situations featured in them are from first hand accounts of the experience of refugees. I wanted to write this piece because I think that the fear-mongering done by certain members of society has given refugees a bad name. I wanted to portray them as human beings going through a hard time that they have no control over and show them as having very human emotions. The piece is about a family escaping from an unknown place of conflict and traveling over the ocean to a safe haven, only to be received by distrusting and sometimes hostile people. Although I have no personal experience in this matter, I believe my words are accurate, and I hope when people hear it they look upon refugees with compassion instead of fear. "
