When a Witch Will Rise

Allison Cooper-Ellis

Grade 6, The Grammar School

"When a witch will rise is a piece about a witch who rises from her lake every 100 years, to play tricks and spells and cackle as much as she would like. She dances, and sings with pleasure, happy to be free from the lake. The song is sung by three groups: Soprano, Alto, and Tenor. It is in a minor,  although the song ends on an A major cord, because when the sun starts to rise, she Knows that it is time to go back to the lake. The village starts to settle down, and when the witch leaves, the piece ends in A major."
