A Vermont Autumn Day

Erik Heitsmith

Grade 6, Ludlow Elementary School, Ludlow, VT

"I found my inspiration for this title by noticing all of the different colors in Autumn and expressing it in my composition. Another way I found this title is because Autumn brings leaves that crunch under your feet and make noise. I have made two fast, allegro sections to show leaves swirling back and forth to to the ground. The rest of the piece is andante to give a description of the colors. The beginning of the piece sounds minor to represent the air getting colder. In Autumn, it is both calming and frantic in ways like animals scurrying to prepare for winter which I try to bring out in my music."
